Why 3G?

Fans For 3G believes 3G football pitches should be allowed at all levels of the game in England for the following reasons:

1. Today's third generation (3G) football pitches play like natural grass - good natural grass that is often only found on other football pitches at the beginning of a season.

2. Research has shown that there is no increased risk of injury on a 3G pitch compared to a natural grass one.

3. 3G surfaces encourage technically good football; both managers and players can be confident in the consistency of the roll and bounce of the ball, knowing it won't vary from area to area on the pitch. This also results in a better game for spectators.

4. 3G surfaces are playable in most weather conditions resulting in far fewer, in any, postponements. This helps clubs avoid a backlog of fixtures and lost match-day revenue while offering assurance to travelling fans that a game is highly unlikely to be called off at short notice.

5.
Clubs who install a 3G surface often benefit from a rise in attendances on days where many other games are postponed because of bad weather or waterlogged grass pitches.

6. Clubs with a 3G surface in their stadium can benefit from hiring out their pitch 7 days a week. Clubs with grass surfaces are rarely able to hire out their grounds during the football season (if at all). A 3G pitch can, therefore, offer huge financial advantages compared to a natural grass surface. This is particularly important for smaller clubs who may otherwise struggle financially.

7. A 3G surface allows a club to become a focal point of its community with facilities being used daily. This not only benefits the club itself, but also the area's residents.

8. Pitch maintenance costs are far lower for a 3G surface than a natural grass one.

9. 3G pitches are allowed at the highest levels of the game in many other countries (including France, Italy, Russia, The Netherlands and The USA) and are heavily promoted by FIFA. They are also used for international fixtures and European Champions League games.

10. 3G surfaces can also be used for other sports (such as Rugby Union, Rugby League, American Football, Hockey and Lacrosse) without it having any negative impact on the quality of the pitch for subsequent football matches.
